Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to appear in the new Hunger Games series instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.

Reports indicate that beloved actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

A Significant Return to Panem

The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will likely occur in a future-set scene, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:

  • Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the filming timeline:

  1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
  3. The highly anticipated film is slated for November 2026 premiere.

Fans of the franchise can now eagerly await the reunion of these central characters to the world of Panem.
